We are so thrilled to chat with Phyllis Piano, author of Hostile Takeover: A Love StoryHere, Phyllis shares a few facts about herself and gives us a sneak peak into her workspace!

What’s on your nightstand-With all of my traveling, I have converted to ebooks exclusively, so the books I read are on my iPad. I always have a number of books loaded for those long, international trips. I just added: The Portable Veblen by Elizabeth McKenzie; The Last Anniversary by Liane Moriaty, The Past by Tessa Hadley, and Carly Simon’s Memoir, Boys in the Trees. I just saw that Bruce Springsteen’s autobiography will be coming out later this year, so that will definitely be on my iPad!

Hardest character to develop in your bookProbably the last couple of chapters. For most of the book, there is so much action, but at the end, the main character, Molly, is very reflective about making major changes in her life and what she really wants going forward, not only for herself, but for those she loves. She tries very hard to incorporate all the lessons she has learned in her life and hopes to find true happiness in the future.

something surprising about you

I am a huge football fan and a shareholder of the Green Bay Packers. My husband is from Liverpool, so I see quite a bit of English football as well as he and his family are huge supporters of Liverpool Football Club. The English side of the family is clear which is the “real football.” I also really like to cook, and the recipes in the book are some of my favorites.

What inspired your writing_I had the strong desire to write about the intersection between the workplace and love. We all have our professional selves at work, but there is just so much going on personally behind the scenes. I thought that this book would give the readers the chance to experience both the work-related and deeply personal challenges that the main characters faced, as they tried desperately to figure out the right things to do in their personal and professional lives.
