We are so thrilled to chat with Kendare Blake, author of Three Dark Crowns. Here, Kendare shares a few facts about herself and reveals the books that have inspired her writing!
This is the cruelest question. So you get a list for an answer: Interview with the Vampire, American Psycho, IT, Jane Eyre, The Red Tree, NOS4A2, We Don’t Live Here Anymore, The Iliad, The Book of Laughter and Forgetting…and Garfield at Large
My dream vacation was to live in London, which I’ve already done. And wowza, what a city. I guess right now my dream vacation is one of those white sand beaches with a salt-rimmed drink. I don’t go in the ocean though. Not even a toe. Riptides. Plus it really pisses my husband off when I refuse. “Sharks.” There are no sharks! “Riptides.” There are no riptides! “You don’t know the riptide schedule. You’re not a local.”
My cat. Staring down at me, considering whether to smother. I’m just kidding. Tyrion Cattister is actually very sweet. Not much is on my nightstand, actually. I’m not a bed reader, or a bed eater, so books and notebooks and things generally hang out on the end table in my living room rather than my nightstand.
My phone I guess. I resisted getting a smart phone until just a few years ago and now I don’t remember my life before. Like, I know I lived, but how? Isn’t that sad?
Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin. Hey it’s okay to kill people, man. There’s value in the idea that no one is safe.
The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter. Angela Carter just does so much with language, and I wish I could do so much with it.
Short Cuts by Raymond Carver. Less is more. Make the words important. And it’s a wonder how he finds such compelling themes in mundane settings.
The Red Tree by Caitlin R. Kiernan. It’s just fricken good. So many implied realities. Implied horror.
